silver eyes

What percentage of the world's words
whittle down to a pathetic plea
Won't you
Oh won't you
But won't you
hold me?

Measure moments mirror-peering
against instances of intimacy
Are sorrowful silver nitrate eyes
the only true love you'll see?
And won't you
Oh won't you
Please won't you
hold me?

Smart enough?
Funny enough?
Thin enough?
Monied enough?
Strong enough?
Young enough?
Hip enough?
Hung enough?
Straight enough?
Tight enough?
Drunk enough?
White enough?

Wearing the right clothes
Thinking the right thoughts
Chained to our work
If we do what we ought
Won't you
Oh won't you
Just won't you
hold me?

Too shy?
Too bold?
Too hot?
Too cold?
Too wrong?
Too right?
Too lost?
Too white?

Eternities deprived
of our most basic need
Abandoned to the deities
of vanity and greed
Won't you
Oh won't you
Why won't you
hold me?
