I can easily imagine colorful birds wearing makeup. It would seem utterly natural if it didn't involve hands and chemical factories. Like, if the birds rubbed their beaks in ash or colorful berries to attract a mate, that would sound totally plausible.
Also, I think you're overestimating the amount of crossover there is between conservative christianity and libertarian pure-capitalism advocates. Do you have any idea how contrary W's policies were to pure capitalism? The republican party's power hinges on a remarkably unlikely alliance between those camps. You'll find strong social conservatives don't have a firm idea of what "pure capitalism" entails, nor do libertarian republicans have much interest in making sodomy illegal.
