Our attitude toward sex is pathologically schizophrenic. We denigrate it with self-consciousness and shame, while simultaneously elevating it far above what it deserves. Sex can be the most loving human intimacy, but it's also a bodily function in the same category as breathing and pooping.
In this atmosphere, our lovers meet. Biology says "GO"! Ironically, the more smart and balanced they are, the less of a chance they have to make romance work, as smart and balanced people avoid nonsense and contradiction.

Saying that "capitalism defeated communism" exposes one as a multi-layered idiot. A communist government is temporary and extremely limited, but the Soviet Union and China had two of the most entrenched, oppressive governments of the last century. The ascension of capitalism in China is about their rulers' lust for power. The downfall of the Soviet Union had nothing to do with ideology - the world's two richest nations had an arms race, and somebody lost.
Imagine you had a feud with your neighbor, and that you were spending 25-50% of your money on weapons. How long would it take you to end the feud?
Now imagine that the feud is over, and that you keep spending 25-50% of your money on weapons. How long would it take you to be institutionalized? We spent over five times as much last year on killing, as we did on teaching. Imagine what we could be if those numbers were reversed.
The secret of knowing the right thing to say, is mostly knowing when to say nothing at all.
Making life decisions based on romantic love, not companionate love, is an invitation to grand disaster.

I'm pretty sure that nowadays the categories are "best male actor" and "best female actor". lol.
also, i'd use the percent of gdp to judge american military spending than the percent of the federal budget. 5% is a much more realistic number, even if that deflates your point a little bit.
