Barbarians at the gate!
Barbarians coming through!
You shudder at the thought
(but you ain't got a clue)
They're brutal, quite savage
I hear they eat babies too
Uncivilized, inhuman
Who knows what they might do?
Picture them scowling
On your bones they'll chew
Mongols, gauls, vandals, huns
Run and hide! In Timbuktu!
But...the real barbarians
don't look like they're expected to
They smile more than snarl
as they give a hearty "what's new?"
They've got their good books
They like a nice day at the zoo
They've got a philharmonic!
(and some loony with a kazoo)
Engagement rings and ledgers
A bag for scruffy's poo
Pensions, graduations
And big bowls of beef stew
Horrifying, hopeless
but i promise you it's true
Peer into the mirror
That barbarian is you
